Sweet & Sour Beef Steak Sandwich
Ingredients
Marinade:
- 1 tsp grated ginger
- 1 tsp grated garlic
- 2 tbsp honey
- ¼ cup ginger beer
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- ½ tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- 4 x 150g of beef fillet
Coleslaw:
- ½ bunch of coriander, chopped
- 1 medium carrot, grated
- ½ daikon radish, grated
- 1 bok choy, finely sliced
- 1 long red chilli, chopped
- 3 spring onions, chopped
- 1 tbsp deep fried shallots
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ¼ cup sweet Japanese mayonnaise
- 4 soft style buns
Method
- Mix the grated ginger, garlic, honey, ginger beer, lemon juice, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, pinch of salt and pepper together in a large bowl. Add the beef fillets and let marinate for about five minutes. N.B. Don't let it marinate for too long as this mixture is quite acidic.
- To make the coleslaw, in a separate bowl add the chopped coriander, grated carrot and radish, bok choy, chilli, spring onions, deep fried shallots, sesame seeds, vinegar, olive oil, pepper and mayonnaise. Mix together well.
- Cook the beef on a hot grill pan with a little oil, until cooked to your liking.
- Grill buns on a grill pan.
- Assemble sandwich with the fillet on the bun, generously topped with the slaw, the bun lid and a skewer to hold it together.
